I got my test iPod Touch yesterday and was able to dig down the problem Locations v0.3.0 had within 30 minutes. Nice. So here you go: Locations 0.3.1 is now again supporting (as far as I know) all devices in all versions. Am I wrong? Let me know in the comments.
Locations 0.3.1 is available in STE repository which is part of the community sources available by default when installing the Installer.app. Please support Ste by donating for his hard work. Since I bought an iPod Touch especially for testing purposes, donations would also be very much appreciated!
Thank you and enjoy
Update: Sadly there are some (new) known issues with this release:
- [new]: Main “Locations” list view is too short, the last location is only visible by half
- [known but detected only now]: Search does not show any results, if the user switched on another search result page with a previous search
- [new]: Massimo reported that adding more than 7 locations manually will result in the following message: “not pointing to a valid image” (not able to confirm that one yet). Just got another report that the issue is solved after the iPod rebooted.
- [known]: Scrolling too much (in my case 99 times) in the widescreen mode crashes the app

hi andreas,
the new version was available this morning via update from my ipod. and … it works great on my 1.1.3 touch!!! thanks a lot! the new version of location also has lots of nice little and big improvements. good work! just one thing: if you go in the installer on “more info” the page appears far too small for reading. and since you can’t zoom in or rotate the page its of not much use

Hello Andreas,
thanks for the new version, it works in my 1.1.3 jb touch.
The only problem i found is the last webcam in the list, which is only displayed half!
Thank you for the good work!
Christian
@Christian
maybe one idea. what about a random mode for viewing pictures? just lean back and have a trip around the world
same problem here. otherwise everything is still fine! it’s also noticeably faster here. it’s even hard to think of improvements by now
Improvements:
1. an option to save nice pics!
2. start could be a little Bit faster!
Kais idea is also nice!
@Christian: The problem is known (see the Update in the blog entry) and fixed (in my development build). Thanks for reporting.
Saving pics is already included! Check out the video
Startup speed is also work in progress.
@Kai: Good idea
Is there a way to modify a file listing the different URLs to the web cam images? I want to add lots of highway web cam images, but when I do a search only 3 of them show up and touch typing on the iPod touch will take forever.
By modifying a file, I mean typing in a text file using say Notepad, then FTP it to the Touch.
@Jay: I don’t really want to add such a “hacker-feature”. I want to keep the app clean. But I have another idea: why don’t you send me the links with the location name (location, city, state, country) and I’ll add them to the database. So it would also be easy for you to add them by using the search feature.
Hi,

Hi Andreas, love your application.
It would be nice if you could have an auto Reload or auto refresh option (every xx seconds for example). Instead of pressing the reload button manually.
(it’s almost as having a streaming video).
Great aplication. Bye,
Luis
Hi Luis,
thanks for the request. I get that one quite often
But I do have a user interface problem on that so far. Most webcams don’t update live, but only every 5 minutes or so. And if the user has it getting updated every few seconds and nothing changes, people will blame the application or me and not use Locations any more. So I have to find a good way to deal with that before I can implement it.
0.3.1 version:
- why can’t zoom in or out the single image taken from webcam ?
- why the last image is displayed not completed ?
Ciao

@Danilo:
- because at the time this version was developed I did not know how to do it
- that is obviously a known bug, which won’t be fixed any more.
Why? Because I am doing a complete rewrite of the application (check out my more recent posts on this blog) to be hopefully released via AppStore once it is done.
Ciao
