Q: Where can I find new images?
A: With v0.1 of Locations you need to know the URL of an image. So go to Google/Yahoo or any other search site and search e.g. “webcam directory” to find websites listing lots of webcam images. Or type “webcam Tokyo” if you are searching a webcam image of Tokyo. Once you have the image, do a control-click (Mac) or right-mouse-click and open the image in a new tab or window. Now you’ll see the URL of the image in the address bar. You need to enter this address into the Image URL field in Locations.
Q: Which images are supported?
A: Currently it should work with JPG, PNG and GIF.
Q: Can I watch streaming webcams?
A: Not yet.
Q: I found an image on a webpage but I cannot get the URL, it might be Flash or something.
A: The flash viewers need to have an url for the images they show. So the question is find out the url. If you are using Safari 3 it turned out to be quite easy:
- Right-Mouse-Click/Control-Click somewhere on the page where the flash context menu does not come up
- Choose “Element-Informationen” (german, english should be similar, it is the menu at the bottom).
- Now the URL eather is listed unter “images” or more likely under “other”.
- Look for elements that are repeated very often and end with .gif/.jpg/.png.
- Put the image name with a leading “/” behind the url mentioned below,
- There you have it
Q: Why would you want to assign a username and password to a location?
A: Maybe you want to access a private webcam (e.g. at home) which is restricted via HTTP basic authentication, then these fields are for you. Otherwise just keep them empty.
Q:I have iPod, but where is camera roll where the pics are saved?
A: Install the TouchRoll package from the iSpazio.net repository: http://repo.ispazio.net
